Abi Clarke
In the earlier
days (i.e. In the early 2020s, comedians were expected to entertain for decades
in the UK before being invited on an audience on TV and selling out arena
tours. However, it's not so straightforward at the moment. Comedy is one type
of art that can continue to be performed before a live audience. However, we
won't be seeing arena tours anytime very soon. One Bristol comedian has found
an international audience during lockdown via social media. Abi Clarke was not
planning her sights on becoming an internet star. She is a 24-year-old woman
living in Hen bury with her parents, started creating online videos "to
create a fan base of people who enjoy my stand-up comedy. "I was doing a
lot of shows in the depths of Devon to guys older than 50 who were not so keen
on my Love Island, Sims and Twilight references so I went online in the hope of
finding other young women that were similar to me." Abi has since
performed at Lakota Gardens after locks have eased however, she continues to
upload her videos to Instagram, Twitter and Tik Tok (where she's recently
surpassed more than 500,000 followers), finding inspiration from sources such
as her job at a café, a conversation with a stranger or even the girl group
chat, writing every thought down on her phone.
